Audio Books

Not that I am addicted to this site, but I have written several extra blogs to "cover" the time I will be away. My daughter and I are taking a trip to the New York/Washington D. C./Canada area… and, since I have post-dated this particular blog for the 28th… We left a couple of days ago!

Friday was my housework day… That's right, when I'm not tending to the store (or in this case… the site) or writing my blog, life goes on. As much as I would love to sit here writing, surfing, interacting, etcetera-ing, I still have drudgery-types of tasks that have to be done around the house.

I remember when my husband first joined audible.com several years ago. He kept trying to get me to buy some of the audio books. Every three or four months I would go into their site and take a look to see if any of my favorite authors' books were included in their very big library of books. I was always disappointed to see that they had very few authors who I would actually "choose to choose." So, I stayed with my local library, preferring to get my audio books on their book cassettes… since my library carried a lot of my favorite authors.

I just gave a bag of (and by that I mean over sixty) cozy mystery books to my library. I hope that they can use them. While I prefer reading a book that I actually own, I know how much libraries appreciate donated books. Years ago, I never bought a book, and used the library for every book I either read or listened to. But, as I have gotten older, I have become pretty set in my ways……… I don't like having to take a book back by a certain date.

I know that I have previously blogged about Alexander McCall Smith, but what can I say!!! He must be addictive!

First of all, let me admit to going nowhere without my Books on Tape. I listen to my books while driving, and also, while walking to my destination. This morning, for example, I unplugged my car's device and plugged in my ear phone so that I could listen to my book while walking the distance between my car and my doctor's office. (If you're doctor is like mine, you can easily listen to a good portion of a chapter while sitting and waiting in both the doctor's waiting room and the little examination room.)

I was just thinking about my next book selection, and couldn't quite make up my mind on what I would pick to read. I have been enjoying the audio versions of Alexander McCall Smith's books so much that I am not sure if I should also start reading his "real books" during the times that I actually read, instead of listen to my books…. times when I am not in my car, or am not doing housework.

I am currently listening to one of Alexander McCall Smith's mystery books on tape, and am enjoying it so much that I cannot wait to find more time to listen to it. I am "reading" the second book in the Number One Ladies' Detective Agency series which features Precious Ramotswe, as she goes through life, solving other people's problems. I love this series! Mma Ramotswe is a very independent woman, and through her, we see Botswana, and the daily conditions that these African people experience. Truly a wonderful series.

Mystery Books on Tape

July 13, 2006

I just had to look up another narrator who I really enjoy…. I remember him from the old television show "One Day at a Time." I first listened to Boyd Gaines read a Caleb Carr novel, and I have been a fan of his narrations since then.

Mystery Books on Audio

July 9, 2006

As I have been typing the lists of authors for this cozy mystery book website, I have found that I have some favorite authors who I have actually never "read" with my eyes, but with my ears. These are authors of books that I have solely listened to on audio cassettes or CDs..
