My last entry got me thinking about mystery books that can be considered "Classics." Over the years, I have jotted down names of authors who might just be considered the great classic mystery book authors. Of course, as with all lists, I am sure there are many other authors out there who should be on it >>> So, please send a comment if you think that I have missed a few Classic Mystery Book Authors.

I recently got a letter from a Cozy Mystery site reader who asked the following:

"I've been re-reading some of my old favorites (Ngaio Marsh currently) and would like to read other books of like quality.  I wondered whether you'd consider a top 50 (or 100) list created by votes from your website visitors?  I've no idea what the logistics of that would be but thought I'd mention it in case you thought it was a good idea."

I have received several letters asking that I find more Colzy mystery books that are "faith-based." With this in mind, I posted the Heartsong Presents Mystery Book Series and the Mystery and the Minister's Wife Mystery Book Series a while back, and today I just posted the Church Choir Mystery Book Series.

A journalist seeks out stories that other professionals (other than detectives – either private or police officers) don't generally try to find, and subsequently solve. Perhaps this is the reason that there are so many journalist/reporter sleuths who star in the mysteries that we love to read. Here is the second part of the three part list of authors (with lasts names beginning with H – M) who are on the Cozy Mystery Site and who happen to write series which feature reporter / journalist sleuths:

There are quite a few mystery authors who started out as journalists. Perhaps this is the reason that there are so many mystery authors who have reporters / journalists as their sleuths. What better profession for your main character to have than something with which you are very knowledgeable. Also, a journalist/reporter is someone who is paid to seek out a story, solve a mystery (of sorts), delve into areas into which others may not feel comfortable doing so.
