The Bonnie Hunt Show is Being Canceled: It Just Doesn't Surprise Me! Whenever I Think a TV Show is Top-Notch…

December 11, 2009

What a SHAME! I am so disappointed The Bonnie Hunt Show has been cancelled. I do not watch talk shows… any of them… except this show. I always feel good after watching it…

I just don't get it!

I guess the ratings show that viewers would rather see shows that are titillating. I know that when Bonnie Hunt interviews her guests, she doesn't use her talk show seat as a reason to be rude to her guests… She doesn't let the guest know that she doesn't agree with his/her politics or choices in life. (I really don't know whether Bonnie votes Democratic, Republican, or simply votes for who she thinks is the best, qualified person for the job, rather than "straight ticket." Lucky for me, since I don't want to know what political party a talk show host believes in! I'll watch a political forum/show with politically educated/informed people when I want that!)

What I do know about her (no, I'm not a personal friend! >>> this is based upon my daily taping of her show) is that her talk show places an emphasis on being kind to all people, giving people the benefit of the doubt, and she clearly sees just how wonderful, fun, and therapeutic both children and animals are.

I am a devoted fan of her show, and from its beginning, I wondered if it would make it… The major channels in my area do not (I guess that should by "did not"…) air The Bonnie Hunt Show. In our area, she is on a channel that I am completely unfamiliar with.  The major networks in the San Antonio area opt to show extended hours of the national day-talk shows… I think that The Today Show gets four hours of network time every weekday.

And, don't even get me started on dancing, singing, travelling, or scripted reality shows… with or without "stars"… I was way too spoiled by variety shows (with the dancing and singing included) like The Carol Burnett Show to enjoy the current fare!

The Bonny Hunt Show is simply …  "kind spirited" … and very funny. Bonnie has an incredibly quick wit… She is always on her toes… And, if you have seen Alice (her mother) on the show, it is easy to see where Bonnie gets her quick sense of humor!

It says something about our society when a "Feel-Good" show like this doesn't make it. But, since Bonnie Hunt appears to be one of the rare people in Hollywood who keeps her friends close… perhaps we will see ALL of them in another format… hopefully soon. (She reportedly works with the same crew in all of her projects.)

The Bonnie Hunt Show will be missed! But the good news is: It looks like reality "star" Kate Gosselin might just be on a new The View-type of panel talk show, which will be replacing The Bonnie Hunt Show… And, if you're anything like me, you are probably sitting on pins and needles with anticipation of getting "parenting and life-choice tips and talk" from Kate, and perhaps her nannies. (Yikes, I'm bad!)

So, I will end this entry the same way I started it: What a SHAME!

PS >>> I guess I should have mentioned that this isn't mystery book related, just another one of my rants!

I'm with you I can't believe they are canceling Bonnie's show. It is a feel good talk show, not like some of that other junk they put on and call it tv. I've seen way too much of Kate and I don't think I would even bother watching her on a talk show. Ooops that wasn't nice. LOL

It really is a shame, Shirley. The Bonnie Hunt Show is the only show that I really looked forward to watching each weekday. Truly a "feel good" show with no hidden agendas…

Please don't cancel Bonnie. I have been watching all of her shows, disappointed when they have been canceled.

So sad. I've loved Bonnie's wit for a long time and was so glad to see that she had a talk show in which to exhibit her talents. What happened that it got cancelled????

I am always leery of diggin' a show too much, as it usually gets cancelled. I am sorry your favorite show got cancelled. I do enjoy Bonnie Hunt's acting and wanted to watch her show, but I don't get much daytime TV watching in.

Hi Vickie…

I DVR-ed her show every day… watched it in short increments all throughout the day.

Well, at least Eureka is coming back…. Hopefully… (Thanks, again, for telling me about that show!)

I'm so disappointed. I agree, it's one of the few talk shows I watch. Seems I watch less and less television — wonder why? Hmmmm. Guess it gives me more time for my cozies!!

Hi Mary Anne,

That's a good point! More time for Cozy-reading can't be a bad thing…

I truly hope another network picks up Bonnie's show. I watch her on my lunch hour here at the office (from her website) & can't imagine anyone else taking her time spot. She really can put a smile on your face and is someone we can all relate to.

We are suprised to see a great talk show go off the air. We watch her every day. She brings laughter and now of days we need that.

IT was a shock to me when my daughter told me Bonnie Hunt was going off the air. BAD IDEA. I love watching her. She is very funny and she makes my day.

Jeany January 5, 2010 at 11:10 am

What a disappointment. For all the really lousy stuff called shows flooding the TV these days, I was beginning to think that with the Bonnie Hunt Show perhaps we were turning a corner for the better; I do find myself reading more and viewing less. Not a bad thing but I really am going to miss Bonnie…she is such a nice reality along with her entire staff….including her Mom, of course. Hope we see her soon in something that will top the ratings. She deserves it.

I'm with you, Jeany! I truly cannot believe that there isn't a market… just one hour every weekday… for an upbeat talk show like The Bonnie Hunt Show! I simply cannot believe that the networks can find enough audience shares for talk shows that involve women beating up other women (on the stage!) because their boyfriends were "canoodling with the other woman while she was eight months pregnant with her third child with the particular man." Who determines the audience shares?!?!? Good grief!

Rosanne January 6, 2010 at 5:00 pm

My cousin and I used to always wait for her show to come on. I loved her mainly for her love and compassion about animals, and also her staff. It was like one big happy family. My cousin loved her for her down to earth ways, and felt like she was such a kind and caring person. I just don't understand why they took her off, when she had such a good following. They can leave Jerry Springer and crappy shows like that, and also Maury Povich. Maury started out good, but then followed in Springer's footsteps. Bonnie was funny, entertaining, just one of the gang. It just really sucks!!

Joel January 14, 2010 at 4:07 pm

Some of us guys are a little "steamed" too! Bonnie is the best and I will be sad to see her go.

Danna - cozy mystery list January 16, 2010 at 10:17 am

I still can't believe it! Of course, as I have said before, the major networks in our city didn't even put her show on a major network… instead, her show is aired during morning rush hour commuting time, on a network most people don't even watch… The only reason I knew that she was on is that I had her name programmed on my Replay machine (like a Tivo.)

Her cancellation says a lot about our nation's viewing habits… I mean:

Wouldn't everybody rather watch as the results of a paternity DNA test are discovered… with the seven possible "fathers" being present… with each of the possible "fathers" having their respective (current!) girlfriends in the front row >>> ready to climb up on stage to beat up the mother of the four month old baby?!?

Apparently the network honchos would!

Donna February 25, 2010 at 2:43 pm

I WILL BOYCOT THE WHOLE HOUR (WCVB 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) THERE IS NO REPLACING "THE BONNIE HUNT SHOW"

Danna - cozy mystery list February 26, 2010 at 8:28 am

Hi Donna,

I'm very unhappy about the cancellation. Last week, my husband asked me what I was going to do once the show was gone… Made me unhappy just thinking about that!

Lyn March 15, 2010 at 8:02 pm

I am beside myself when I heard that Bonnie Hunt was being cancelled. Every morning I watch her. I shake my head in disbelief that this wonderful woman, her mother Alice and her staff (family) are going off the air. I wrote a letter to the network asking if they were crazy. I never heard back from them.

I agree with Donna who said she was going to boycott the hour. Good for her and Jeany who said she thought we were turning a corner for the better with Bonnie's show.

You can't say enough nice things about Bonnie. I think she is the real thing. I was hoping another network (that I receive) would pick her up.
